Enugu, NCC Seal Deal on Digital Hub to Empower Youth

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Enugu State Government to operationally lease its Digital Industrial Park and NCC Learning Centre in Enugu, in a move aimed at strengthening digital skills, innovation and economic growth.

The partnership, announced on Wednesday, is part of efforts to bridge the gap between access to digital infrastructure and the capacity to utilise technology productively, as artificial intelligence, automation and other emerging technologies continue to reshape industries and economies globally.

Speaking on the initiative, the Commission noted that investing in digital skills is as critical as investing in infrastructure, stressing that access to technology must be matched with the knowledge required to deploy it effectively.

The Digital Industrial Park and NCC Learning Centre were established as hubs for innovation, entrepreneurship and human capital development. They are expected to serve as platforms for deepening digital skills, supporting startups, attracting investments, and creating employment opportunities.

The NCC said the activation of the facilities by the Enugu State Government would provide young people with access to 21st-century skills, while enabling entrepreneurs to transform ideas into viable businesses and connect local enterprises to broader opportunities across Nigeria and beyond.

According to the Commission, the initiative will also position Nigeria as a competitive destination for business process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing and other technology-driven services.

It emphasised that infrastructure alone does not drive innovation, noting that people, ideas and partnerships remain central to achieving sustainable development in the digital economy.

The Commission added that the partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its vision of building a one-trillion-dollar economy anchored on productivity, innovation and private sector growth.

Reaffirming its commitment, the NCC stated that it would continue to support initiatives that expand digital opportunities, strengthen human capital development and ensure inclusive access to the benefits of the digital economy.

The Enugu State Government is expected to drive the operationalisation of the facilities to maximise their impact on the state’s growing technology ecosystem.
