A coalition of stakeholders in Enugu State has praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what it described as “unprecedented firsts” in governance, saying his performance has significantly reduced the strength of opposition politics in the state.
The group, Concerned Stakeholders for Good Governance, led by its convener, Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., said visible development across key sectors has shifted political discourse from rhetoric to measurable results.
Nwaokobia said opposition parties usually gain momentum where governments fail, but noted that the situation in Enugu had changed due to what he called deliberate and impactful governance.
“Opposition thrives where there are failures — abandoned projects, broken promises, and loss of public confidence. But in Enugu today, governance is visible and measurable, leaving little room for empty criticism,” he said.
He noted that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Mbah had focused on performance rather than political grandstanding, adding that the administration had redefined governance in the state.
According to him, the uniqueness of the administration lies not just in the number of projects executed but in their unprecedented nature across sectors.
The group highlighted the establishment of a Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation as a major step towards strengthening crime detection and prosecution.
In education, it commended the construction of Smart Green Schools in the state’s 260 political wards, describing the initiative as transformative and future-driven.
“These are not conventional schools. They are technology-driven learning centres designed to prepare our children for a digital future,” Nwaokobia said.
The stakeholders also praised the rollout of Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the wards, noting that the move had improved access to quality healthcare, especially in rural communities.
On infrastructure, the group pointed to ongoing road projects and urban renewal efforts, which it said were opening up economic opportunities and improving connectivity.
It also noted improvements in security through the deployment of technology, including surveillance systems and integrated command centres, which it said had enhanced safety and investor confidence.
On the economy, the group said the administration was shifting the state from dependence on federal allocations to investment-driven growth, while also repositioning agriculture through mechanisation and value-chain development.
Nwaokobia added that the administration had introduced a culture of accountability, where projects are tied to timelines and performance is closely monitored.
“People are now asking who is delivering results, not who is making the loudest noise,” he said.
While acknowledging that opposition remains vital in a democracy, the group stressed that criticism must be based on facts.
It added that the administration had raised public expectations, with residents now demanding speed, efficiency, and tangible results from government.
“The most effective response to opposition is performance, and that is what we are seeing in Enugu today,” Nwaokobia said.
The group concluded that Mbah’s reforms across education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and economic development had not only accelerated growth but also reshaped governance in the state.
