The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) branch, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government to implement outstanding agreements with the union or face industrial action.
The branch Chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, disclosed this on Thursday following a resolution of the union’s congress.
Mbave said the ultimatum was a formal demand for immediate compliance with the union’s demands and not an invitation for fresh negotiations.
In a statement issued to journalists, he urged the Taraba State Government, the university’s Governing Council and management to urgently address the outstanding issues, stressing that the patience of lecturers should not be mistaken for surrender.
According to him, the resolution followed directives and resolutions of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU concerning the continued non-implementation of applicable provisions of the ASUU-Federal Government 2025 Agreement.
“The Union considers the continued non-implementation of the Agreement unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with the principles of good-faith negotiation, collective bargaining, legitimate expectation, and established industrial relations practice,” he said.
Mbave stressed that agreements reached through recognised negotiation processes should be honoured and implemented within the stipulated or otherwise reasonable timeframe.
He said the 14-day notice commenced on August 13, 2026, and would expire on August 26, 2026.
Among the union’s demands, he said, were the immediate and full implementation of all applicable outstanding provisions of the ASUU-FGN 2025 Agreement.
“The Union considers the continued non-implementation of the Agreement unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with the principles of good-faith negotiation, collective bargaining, legitimate expectation, and established industrial relations practice,” he said.
Mbave stressed that agreements reached through recognised negotiation processes should be honoured and implemented within the stipulated or otherwise reasonable timeframe.

Among the union’s demands, he said, were the immediate and full implementation of all applicable outstanding provisions of the ASUU-FGN 2025 Agreement.
He also demanded the immediate payment of all financial arrears accruing from January 2026 to date.
Mbave urged the state government and university authorities to act within the ultimatum period to avert disruption of academic activities at the institution.
