farmer, Hammasumo Ali, has lost his left hand following an alleged machete attack by a herdsman in Nyashika, Gumti Ward, Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary of Information of Toungo LGA, Daniel Pogu Toungo, and seen by Daily Post, the incident occurred while Ali was carrying out farming activities in the community.
The statement said the farmer attempted to prevent a herdsman from allowing his cattle to enter his farm to graze, leading to an argument that later escalated into a physical confrontation.
The herdsman allegedly attacked Ali with a machete, inflicting severe injuries that resulted in the loss of his left hand.
Ali is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, according to the statement.
Following the incident, the Chairman of Toungo Local Government Area, Hajiya Hauwa Guruja, visited the injured farmer at the hospital and expressed sympathy over his condition.
The latest incident highlights the persistent tensions between farmers and herders in rural communities, where disputes over farmland, grazing and access to other resources can escalate into violence.
Conflicts between the two groups have frequently resulted in injuries, deaths and destruction of property in parts of northern Nigeria.
