UK TRAVEL ADVISORY RECOGNISES TARABA’S IMPROVED SECURITY UNDER GOV. KEFAS

The security investments of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, are attracting growing international attention, with the latest travel advisory issued by the United Kingdom Government identifying Taraba as a destination where travel is permitted for essential purposes.

The advisory, which highlights security concerns across parts of Nigeria, including several states in the North-East, places Taraba among locations subject to essential-travel restrictions rather than a blanket warning against all travel.

Reacting to the development, the Agbu Kefas Re-election Campaign Council described the advisory as a significant recognition of the Governor’s efforts to restore peace and strengthen security across the state. The Council noted that improved security would further boost public confidence, encourage tourism and strengthen investor interest in Taraba.

In a statement, the Council said:

“His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas, has made significant progress in keeping Taraba State safe. Even his fiercest critics cannot ignore the improvements recorded in the security sector.

“Before he assumed office, Taraba was confronted by serious security challenges, including kidnapping and banditry. Fear disrupted daily life, forced residents in some communities to relocate and made travel home a source of anxiety for many citizens. Politicians, businesspeople and other residents who travelled from Abuja and elsewhere often did so under heavy security arrangements, while some abandoned their homes for fear of attacks.

“Governor Kefas has worked hard to change that narrative. His administration has prioritised security, strengthened efforts to protect lives and property, and restored a greater sense of safety across much of the state. Today, residents in many communities are increasingly able to pursue their daily activities with greater confidence, while tourists and investors have stronger reasons to consider Taraba for business and leisure.”

The Council attributed the progress to the Governor’s sustained commitment to security operations, substantial investments in the sector and determination to pursue practical solutions to emerging threats.

“Governor Kefas understands that security is fundamental to development. Without peace, businesses cannot thrive, investors will hesitate, tourism will suffer and communities cannot reach their full potential. This is why his administration continues to invest in security and work towards more effective ways of protecting the people.

“The United Kingdom’s advisory is an encouraging development. It reinforces the importance of sustained efforts to improve security and sends a positive signal to those considering travel to Taraba for essential purposes. We believe that continued progress will further strengthen confidence in the state’s economic and investment prospects.”

The campaign acknowledged that certain areas of Taraba remain vulnerable to occasional communal clashes and other security incidents. However, it maintained that the administration’s broader security efforts have produced meaningful improvements and that the Governor remains committed to addressing existing challenges.

According to the Council, the relative peace and growing sense of security enjoyed by residents remain among the most significant achievements of the Kefas administration.

It added that the value citizens place on peace, safety and stability would remain a major consideration as they assess the Governor’s leadership and development agenda.
